That surprised me. “Alright then...” I paused, looking around at the basic brand clothing with trashy print to the chino’a in not so great colours before I finally picked out a black shirt in the size small, he was probably an extra small but I didn’t want to push my luck. “Yah don’t have tah you know? We can forget this ever happened and go check out, I ain’t judging yah,” too harshly. I found my hands curling around his arms, fingering the jumper as I looked down at he shirt.

Jaxon grabbed at the shirt, "It's fine." He moved through the the woman's section, grabbing a pair of size four jeans that were a light wash denim. He moved away from them and went to the checkout, wondering if he would actually be able to fit- wear... If he would actually be able to wear them.

I followed him, the jeans threw me off a bit, but I didn’t say a word. A smile slid onto my lips like a key turning a lock, a forced reaction when it came to social interaction. Only problem is my smile always looked wrong on me, like I was up to no good. I didn’t respond to the cashier, only coming forward when things needed to be paid for. The price wasn’t a pretty sight and I had to remind myself that I still had left over from selling my last batch. “Care to change out of the jumper yah came on?” I asked as we began to walk our, loud enough that the cashier could hear.

Jaxon blushed madly and elbowed his stomach, finding his bony arm jabbing against a hard six pack. He grunted softly since he was pretty sure it hurt him more. He pouted and shook his head, "When we get home I'll shower and change."

“And I will change the bedsheets that we both ruined.” I hummed back, ruffling my free hand through his hair while my other carried ha bag of clothes.
***
Once we got home, I dropped the bag in my bed, changing out of my shirt into a singlet before heading out to the kitchen, leaving Jaxon to shower. When I returned, I brought with me a fruit bowl and toasted sandwiches, which I left on my bed side table before doing as promised. I refused to sleep another night on jizzed on sheets. Oddly, my mood had stabilised, it was almost normal having him around. Comforting... I didn’t let myself dwell in it too much, forcing the batman print sheets onto my bed.

Jaxon pulled on the new boxers before he looked through the pile. He came to the black shirt and looked at it for a minute before pulling the tag off. He decided to try it, the ribbon sitting on the sink reminding him about that morning. He took a deep breath, pulling the shirt over his head and letting it fall over his frame. He hadn't worn a shirt this size in a long time. It was a small. He was still too small for it. He blinked at his reflection and grabbed at the ribbon, looking down at his thigh. He spent twenty minutes in the bathroom, alternating between looking at the marked ribbon and extra material and his reflection, trying his best to see what was evident with the ribbon. And even the shirt. He was thin. He wasn't fat. He was skinny, and it looked sickly. He swallowed his shock down, it felt like a bomb dropped, something clicked, the puzzle piece fell in to place- but only for a moment. He tied the ribbon around his neck as a sort of choker, pulling one of the large jumpers on over the top of the t-shirt and then pulled on a pair of sweatpants. He ambled his way out to Eric's room, holding the rest of the clothes. He dropped them and climbed on to the new sheets halfway through Eric making the bed.

I didn’t comment or even particularly look, thinking of how he didn’t really comment when I freaked out over a needle. I laid the sheet over top of him and then sat beside him, picking up a sandwich for me to eat. “Plenty on the plate for yah,” I offered whilst my free hand reached for his hand, needing the contact. A moment passed before my implusive mind kicked up a gear, “is that supposed to be a choker or something?”

"Shut up. " He mumbled and sat up, immediately shutting the conversation down. It was there to remind him since he could feel it constantly and with every bite he swallowed. He reached for the food and glanced up at Eric before giving him his back while he nibbled on the sandwich.

I arched an eyebrow, my fingers tugging on the ribbon in a soft interest as I ate my own sandwich. "Yah can stay here for longer... after the weeks done, if yah want," I said, an uncertainty of a different colour shading my voice. It wasn't that I didn't want him here, it was more that I didn't know if he liked being here.

Jaxon leaned back and laid on Eric, nibbling at the sandwich before saying softly, "I'll think about that... I would want to I just... Don't know how we'll be acting at the end of this week... " He quietened to finish the half of the sandwich before curling in to Eric's thigh. He closed his eyes, his head tucked up against the mans stomach as he held his own hand, happily ready to fall asleep.

I felt whatever words I was about to say get caught in my throat. Carefully, I tugged his hands apart and placed one of mine there instead, holding his small sweet hand as gently as I could. I knew what he meant. It brought me a moment of clarity and hit home with what my counsellor kept asking me in juvy. What are you going to do when you get out? What do you want to do with your life, Eric? And as an addict, being asked that question after years of thinking I would end up dead on the street by 19. “Okay Jaxon.” I murmured, letting myself lean back into the bed head.

Jaxon opened his eyes after a moment and instead twisted his body so he could move on to Eric's lap. He koala hugged his front and whispered softly, "Thank you for my ribbon. " It made his heart warm thinking about it. He wanted to get better now he could... See the problem. He could see it, but his brain was having trouble comprehending and acknowledging it. The ribbon wasn't going to magically cure him, but he sure as hell was going to try to break the habit.

And we lived happily ever after. Fuck no. Then this shit hole happened.
I smiled at him, glad that my stupid idea was sort of helping, “so yah understand yah being like this isn’t healthy?” I asked, for once my words where restricted, tight, held at the back of my mouth with all the caution I had in me— which was fuck all. It comes in threes right? I well this was the hundredth time.
“JUNIOR!” Roared a voice I had killed, “Where are yah, little shit?!” I froze for only a moment, long enough for my heart to start, stop, and make its home in my throat. My grip on Jaxon’s hand tightened hard enough to bruise. And then I was moving. “We have to go.” I shoved him out of the way, rushing to my door to close it as quiet as I could, locking it with what fragile lock I had installed myself. I scrambled to get my knife from under my mattress, jamming it in my waist band, handing fumbling for my things. My hands where shaking, failing to keep steady no matter how fast I moved or thought he would... I shoved past Jaxon, opening the window, “he’s going to kill me Jaxon we have to go!” I whisper shouted, grabbing his hand so he would follow me.

Jaxon opened his mouth to answer, wincing at the loud voice. Eric moved and jaxon yelped as he was thrown off and hit the mattress. He rolled off as Eric reached under it, and squatted on the otherside near the window. His heart pounded in shock and he reached for Eric's hand, "Who is that? " he whispered, scared of the thing scaring the scariest person he knew.

“ERIC,” snarled the voice that had me stop breathing, “what have I Yah about locked doors?!” He tried the handle, I could just imagine what he would do to Jaxon. I couldn’t let that happen. I grabbed Jaxon by the armpits, ripping him through the window and letting him fall with me as I dropped from the roof to the garden bed, I managed to take the weight of the drop but that wouldn’t be fun for him regardless. Almost immediately I was up, hand grabbing Jaxon’s arm as I started to run for the back yards fence. “We have to go,” I repeated, sent into a panic of survival. There was no surviving my father, there was one run and be found. It didn’t make sense, but I didn’t have time to think about it. I only stopped when I realised I needed to carrying Jaxon or we weren’t going to get away fast enough. At that, I swung him into my arms bridal style and kept a running into the alleys behind the house.
